How Does Membrane Technology Work?
Membrane technology works to separate molecules of N2 gas from the air we breathe. Starting with a vessel containing a hollow tube in the middle surrounded by a polymeric hollow fiber, compressed air is forced in and the fibers selectively permeate oxygen, water vapor, and other impurities out of its side walls. This allows Nitrogen gas to flow through its center and emerge as high purity N2 gas that can then be stored for current or later use.
Benefits of Membrane Technology
Membrane technology is used to separate and capture Nitrogen that can then be used for a multitude of applications (see: Nitrogen for the Food & Wine Industry, Nitrogen Uses in the U.S. Military, Nitrogen for Power Plants). South-Tek manufactures many of our Nitrogen Generator models with membrane technology because it offers the following benefits:
- Least expensive N2 production method
- High N2 purities, or high N2 volumes at lower purity levels
- High reliability due to simple airflow design
- Utilizes lower operating and delivery pressures
